Category Archives: moving to redwood shores

yesterday evening around 6 i was waiting outside for g$ to swing by and then head on over to walnut creek to pick up the couches. i see his black truck pull up and i’m pointing to an available parking space to let him know to park there. he passes it up and i see him pointing back… i’m like, huh?

totally didn’t get it.

i look back and i’m like, what? another black truck was behind him and, as it got closer, i realized it was humby!!!!!!!!

geez, a fuzzy feeling came over me. it was a great surprise to see humby coming out to help too and i felt so grateful again…appreciative for such great friends. humby just got his truck a few weeks ago and i was a bit worried of anything happening to his new car… humby’s attitude about it – dude, it’s a truck! haha, nice :)

that moment is still fresh in my mind…and what’s happened in the past two days has reminded me of how fortunate i am – it’s just moving, but it’s the thought of having friends who shell out their time and efforts to help that makes me smile so big that my eyes look majorly chinky.

both g$ and hum drive their trucks across the bridge to walnut creek to get the couches (loaned to me by my brother-in-law…thanks~!) and the only furniture i’ve ever bought since moving to california (my closet furniture :) ). everything fit perfectly onto both trucks after some great packing maneuvering by the guys – they’re wonderful!

drove back to redwood shores to unload and then went out to grab some late dinner. we hit up san mateo to see grab a bite at bacio cafe, but their kitchen was closed and nico recommended to check out Tres Amigos – so we did.

Tres Amigos is really good! i usually never opt for mexican food just b/c i rarely like it, but Tres Amigos is a place i wouldn’t mind going back to. We each ordered an entree and added an order of nachos too.

ordering nachos turned out to be a mistake…not b/c it was bad, but b/c the serving sizes there are HUGE. one entree is enough to feed two people. the nachos tasted great, btw. next time we’ll know :)

now everything is pretty much done for moving. the rest is my job to unpack and organize things the way i like.

still can’t get over that feeling… i got madd luv for you guys – thanks so much! :) john’s very grateful as well to yall! gonna pick him up tonight and figure out what we’ll do with our (now free and unplanned) weekend. thank you, thank you, thank you!

yesterday was a hectic day… work was busy and trying to figure out with g$ how to plan yesterday’s night move…

thinking of yesterday, Wednesday, April 9, 2008:

drove up to San Bruno to meet up with g$ and nooj, but since the truck could only fit 2 people total, g$ followed us to emeryville to pick up my bed. along his way, he stopped by target to pick up cheap bed sheets to use to cover his truck bed and mattress – thanks, dude…that was major sweet of you :)

when we got to the condo and began picking up the pieces to move into the rental truck, we started realizing a few things:
1) the bed and mattress are taking up all the room in the truck, so picking up the couches in walnut creek might not be able to fit anyway
2) b/c each piece was quite heavy, it took a bit of time to get all parts down and it was already getting dark. by the time we would get to walnut creek and back to redwood shores, it’ll be midnight – not good

i really wanted to utilize the rental truck and pick up as much stuff as possible within 24 hours to lower costs, but by 8 o’clock it just didn’t seem to make sense to do so…

and then, g$ offers his time and truck for tomorrow to pick up the rest of my belongings and couches from walnut creek – boy, did i feel so fortunate to have such a good friends. nooji already took a night outta his week to help me and then g$’s offering more of his time… it’s the little things like these that make me smile and feel so grateful for what life has put upon me. no matter how down and out things may seem sometimes, friends and family make it all better. no amount of money can ever buy that kind of feeling.

got back to redwood shores and unpacked the bed into the apartment before grabbing some grub…

conversation:
nooji and i were in the rental truck waiting for g$ to come… so we’re just chatting, and with nooji being the one who can remember lyrics and artists to hit songs, i asked him…
me: dude, have you heard the new song by lil’ wayne?
nooj: nah, don’t think so… how does it go?
me: umm, man, i can’t remember…damn, but it’s dope.. something lick?

next thing you know, lil wayne’s lollipop is on the radio – dope! my fav jam @ the moment…

since most places aren’t open too late in the bay, g$ knew of heidi’s pies that would be open, so we hit that up in San Mateo for our late night dinner. the place has pretty good food – waaay better than any ihop or denny’s. it’s a place i’d come to again for a midnight meal.

after dinner, we went back to my place and started the last leg of the night…putting the bed together. it was funny, the guys couldn’t picture how the bed was supposed to look with all the pieces apart, but as things started coming together, the consensus on the bed design was “sweet!”

haha, during the building project, we used our cell phones as flashlights since my bedroom didn’t have any lights yet… good times.

it was pretty late by the time we finished putting the bed together – thanks soooo much guys…

tonight g$ and i should finish the move – woooohooo!

today is the day! went to the leasing office during lunch time to do the walk through and get my keys – wooohooo!

gonna pick up the rental truck and G$ and nooj are gonna go with me to pick up my bed and couches to my new place…

thanks so much guys for helping me out… i have awesome friends.. <3 :)

I finally move out to my own place in two weeks. For the first time in a long time, I’ll be living on my own, by myself. I’m pretty excited about moving since I get to have my own room again, yet I cringe every time I think about rent + utilities. If only living in California was more affordable!

I can’t wait to have a 5 minute commute to work and sleep on a bed again. The couch has been good to me for the past 2+ years (maybe not so good for my back), but I really miss having a bed.

2 more weeks…
